Day 198 (12th January 2006)
Today I decided to go and walk around Cape Byron and go up to the lighthouse. The walk takes around 2 hours in total and takes you around the cape through some rainforest and also you can go to the most easterly point in Australia. Unfortunately I should have maybe used a little more sunscreen as I got pretty lobstered without realising it.........

Day 197 (11th January 2006)
Managed to sort out all of my trips today. I am doing Fraser Island 4WD for 3 days 2 nights, doing a Great barrier reef snorkelling trip, doing 2 days 2 nights sailing the Whitsundays, doing a 2 day 1 night Cape tribulation trip and also some Dolphin Kayaking as well, it should all be good.......

Day 196 (10th January 2006)
Been trying to work out what trips I am going to book for the Fraser Island 4WD, the Whitsundays sailing trip, Great Barrier Reef trip and Cape Tribulation trip. It's so confusing as there are so many different ones on offer and I am totally lost as to which trips to choose.....

Day 195 (9th January 2006)
Left this morning at 6am on the bus to Byron Bay. Arrived here at around 11am and got settled into the hostel. The hostel is actually quite nice, for one I'm only sharing the dorm with 3 other people. I had a walk around the place in the afternoon and had some beers in the evening with some people from the hostel. This place is kind of like Newquay in Cornwall but 1000 times better...

Day 194 (8th January 2006)
The weather today was on and off rain. During the non-raining part of the day I went for a short walk around the harbour area, again there is not much else to do here...a very quiet place.

Day 193 (7th January 2006)
One of the guys staying in my dorm has got a car so today we decided to go and take a look around this place. First we went to the Clog barn. At this place there is a miniture dutch village and the guy that owns it makes clogs. It was then a trip to the big banana to get a picture and try some chocolate dipped bananas. We then went to check out the actual harbour and did a walk up onto Mutton Island. The weather soon changed and heavy rain came down so we decided not to do anything else and returned to the hostel. There is not much else to do here, Coffs Harbour is a pretty small place....

Day 192 (6th January 2006)
I caught the greyhound bus today to Coffs Harbour. I managed to get checked into a pretty good hostel called The Aussietel. For the remainder of the day I got to meet some people from the hostel and played some drinking games with them....it's all good.

Day 191 (5th January 2006)
The weather today was awful, it was raining quite heavily most of the day. Despite that we managed to go and visit a koala hospital where they care for injured or diseased koalas. Also nearby was a heritage house that you could look around. In the afternoon we drank beer and had a party at the hostel, playing on the free pool table. Tomorrow I leave for Coffs harbour...

Day 190 (4th January 2006)
Today a group of us got up early to go and ride some camels on the beach. There is a company that offer camel rides for $15. It lasts for around 20 mins and was definately worth a shot. In the evening I headed down to the Irish bar down the road with the other English guy and then we grabbed some cheap liquor and came back to the hostel for a few games of pool. I think tomorrow we are going to go to the koala hospital. I leave here on Friday to head towards Coffs Harbour...

Day 189 (3rd January 2006)
Got to the bus station on time despite not getting very much sleep. The bus journey was pretty boring as usual but arrived in Port Maquarie at around 1.30pm and managed to find a hostel as there was someone waiting to pick up people at the bus station. The hostel I am staying in is pretty nice, in fact it's just like a house - very cosy and there is also a swimming pool here. I met another guy from England and decided to head out for a look around the town. The town is medium sized about the size of maybe Portchester. There are a few beaches around and I like the feel of this place, it's nice to be out of the big cities again. I've got to say that I have started to get a bit bored of them and also staying in hostels that are so big that people are always coming and going all the time...

Day 188 (2nd January 2006)
Today it's the birthday of one of the guys in my dorm and he has invited everyone out for dinner and drinks at a comedy club in Paddington. We got there for 7 and had some grub then there was a line up of 4 comedians until around 11ish. A couple of them were actually really good. It was a pretty good night all-in-all but I had to leave early as I needed to get sleep because tomorrow I am up early to catch the bus at 6.30am.

Day 187 (1st January 2006) - New Years Day!
Well it's a new year and today was a recovery day. I spent some time doing some boring things like laundry and stuff and preparing to leave Sydney on the 3rd. You wouldn't believe the temperature today, the winds were blowing from the west bringing the heat from the outback and it was 45 degrees C. Felt like being blown by a giant hair dryer!

Day 186 (31st December 2005) - New Years Eve!
Today I got up fairly early and the group of us from our dorm headed down to Mrs Maquaries point to get a good spot for the fireworks. We got down there at lunch time in order to secure a place as once the place was full no more people would be allowed in. Bring your own alcohol was not allowed so we had to purchase everything from the bar marquees. The queues were massive sometimes it took nearly an hour to get a drink. It was a long wait (12 hours) before the new year so we had to try and pass the time playing card games etc. There were some family fireworks at 9pm but the big ones happened at 12. It was very impressive and was well worth the long wait. Happy New Year everyone!

Day 184 (29th December 2005) - THE 6TH MONTH MARK
Today to celebrate being away for half a year I did the blue mountains trip. Well in fact it was a lot more than just the blue mountains. The bus came to pick me up at 7.40am and then we headed out to Coogee beach to do a costal walk which lasted around 40mins. It was back on the bus to head to a wildlife park on the way to the blue mountain. The wildlife park contained mostly only australian animals and birds. I got my first sight of a wombat, dingo, tasmanian devil, wallabies and also saw again koalas, kangaroos and a crocodile and loads of other weird birds. After that we headed back on the bus and went to a lake to have lunch. Then it was onto the blue mountains and echo point, echo point is the best vantage point to gain great views across the mountains and also the three sisters. We then walked down the "furber steps" into the canyon. At the bottom we caught the worlds steepest railway back up to the top. Yeah, it's pretty scary stuff the railway is at an incline of 52 degrees and back in the old days it was used by miners. We left the blue mountains at 3.30pm and headed back towards the city stopping off first at a winery for some wine tasting and then at the olympic park where the 2000 olympic games were held. I got a picture in front of the stadium and cauldron. The tour then dropped us all off at the terminal where we caught a ferry the rest of the way back to the city passing underneath the harbour bridge and terminating at Circular Quay. I got the train back from here to the hostel. I met some people on the tour and agreed to meet them in the evening for drinks. So went first to Scubar to meet them and then we went back down to circular quay and the rocks for some beers! In fact it was a really late night as I got back here around 4am but it was a pretty good laugh all-in-all. Anyway I am looking forward to the fireworks on new years eve, I think that a group of us are going down to Mrs Maquaries point to get a good vantage point across the harbour....

Day's 181-183 (26th-28th December 2005)
On boxing day I went out for a couple of beers down at "The Rocks" in Sydney. The other days I chose not to drink and instead decided not to do much. On the 28th I went down to the Qantas office to get my flight tickets re-issued. Still doesn't feel much like xmas here.

Day 180 (25th December 2005) - Christmas Day!! Happy xmas!
Arrangements for xmas day were a little late coming. In the end I was able to tag along with the guys from my dorm. We went to North Sydney and had a BBQ at a nice quiet grassland location overlooking Sydney harbour. It was a great day, the weather was really hot, there was loads of food and drink and a good group of people showed up. We ate, drank lots and played football on the grass. We stayed there all day until sunset playing drinking games. It was a super day but it really didn't feel like xmas at all, it was totally different from the xmas I know back at home. It was 36 degrees C today, can you believe it!

Day's 177-179 (22nd-24th December 2005)
HO HO HO - Merry xmas everyone! I'm ofcourse now back in Sydney for the xmas and new year period. On the 3rd of January I am leaving to travel the east coast. I have bought my bus pass and my first destination is Port Macquerie. I have also booked a day trip to the blue mountains for next Thursday, that should be good. In the last couple of days I have been chilling out, luckily I've got a good group of people in my dorm so should be spending xmas day somewhere with them. I can't believe it is xmas already, it surely doesn't feel much like it for me. I'm approaching the 6 month mark - can't believe I've been away from home that long, but sure have done a hell of a lot of stuff in that time, seeing things in 8 different countries so far. It has been amazing so far and I wouldn't exchange this experience for anything else.....

Have yourselves a very merry xmas and a happy and prosperous new year!

Day's 173-176 (18th-21st December 2005)
Well tomorrow (22nd) I am flying back to Sydney for xmas and new year. The last few days here have been non-eventful, in fact yesterday I spent the whole day in bed with a fever, not good. Today I feel slightly better, I am out of bed anyway. For my last night here I think maybe a couple of beers in the bar watching the live band but not a late one, I don't want to damage myself or feel like rubbish tomorrow. The airport is 50kms away from here so I have to get a tram into the city and then hop onto a coach to get out to the airport. I will be sad to leave Melbourne. I really love this city and have had a great time here.

Day's 170-172 (15th-17th December 2005)
I haven't been up to much lately, I've just had a couple of quiet days and nights in the hostel. I met a cool girl from London called Ellen, so we have been hanging out together drinking wine and playing cards. On Saturday we were planning on going to see an open air movie and having a picnic but unfortunately the weather was really bad and it got cancelled. We still had the picnic though but in the room of the hostel!
